African Emcee Obie Iyoha is making some serious noise in the Hip Hop world now with the release of Karats.
A native of Ann Arbor Michigan by way of Greensboro, NC, Obie Iyoha has paid his dues in full.
Iyoha started rapping in College, and in 2013 released his first mixtape, The Low-key.
He then began opening up for rappers such as Logic and ASAP Rocky and joined Black Opera.
In January of 2016, Iyoha released his solo debut Midnight Run, which became a classic.
This year proves to be a big one for Iyoha, as he releases KARATS and new music.
AFRICAN INFLUENCE AND NEW SOUND
After taking the past year off to travel to his home country of Nigeria, he is returning not only with a new purpose but a new sound inspired by his Nigerian roots.
Afropunk, which is a combination of African Beats and Hip Hop, is Iyoha’s signature sound, and its quickly becoming a new but rare sound.
NEW SONG KARATS
Released on February 12th, Karats is his newest single, which showcases his new sound.
“Can a n*gga live, get it how you live” are the first words you hear and that’s because this song is one of personal growth for myself in becoming a mouthpiece for my boys back in Nigeria.
The song is personal, but with a twist. In the song, it’s clear that Nigeria is apart of who he really is
“I personally hit a low point in 2016, so I traveled back to Nigeria and I got to reconnect with myself and who I am.”
With the release of his album, Pink Moon, due in a couple of months, its safe to say that the future is bright for Obie Iyoha.
