The Sri Lankan artist M.I.A has returned with new single “Goals”. Despite being super busy with curating the Meltdown Festival in London. The track was originally previewed on periscope earlier this year on a live broadcast but officially dropped June 7th. M.I.A states that the song is inspired by her loyal fans.
“DEDICATED TO MY HARDCORE FANS THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNFALTERING DEDICATION AND SUPPORT. YOU HAVE GIVEN ME A SLIVER OF HOPE IN HUMANITY.”
She is known for her political outspokenness. No wonder the song was released the day of UK’s election day.
“The song’s precise percussion gives the song a “smoochy weird-sound” as she’s stated in her periscope broadcast. The song was produced by recurring producer Branko, who also helped contribute to her last album AIM. ”
“Relationship goals are you and me. Fighting H-A-T-E with L-O-V-E.” This warm electro track covers the topic of relationship goals, and even friend goals. Her unfaltering belief in fighting hate with love has been a constant goal in her career, and has also been a prominent topic in her other songs.
The visual for the song is a string of GIFS arranged by artist Jaime Martinez. The GIFS will later be released on exhibit for Meltdown Festival on June 9th. The festival will include artists such as MHD, Mykki Blanco, Crystal Castles, and many more.
The release of M.I.A’s track follows “P.O.W.A”, which lets listeners know that there might be more music in the works.
