Jordan Rakei’s latest release, Nerve, is a symphonic melody. Rakei has a passionate voice, and the words roll out of his mouth and into the sound waves.
Nerve isn’t simply an exposition of Rakei’s vocal talent. What really stood out to me in this track is the beauty and poetic nature of the lyrics. They are the type of lyrics that capture an artists soul, and that soul is then transported to the listener. It is a special kind of track in that way. To share some of these magical lyrics “One step out of the canvas to my lover’s heart, But the stow is too full, and that envelope had a letter In that scarcity room, Back in silence is when utopia began falling apart, I was always a clumsy speaker, and we couldn’t find one another In that scarcity room”. The song is truly a poem.
Jordan Rakei is a 25-year-old Australian artist based in London. In 2014, his “Groove Curse” EP made it all the way to Europe and North America and was highly popular. This caused Rakei to make the journey to move to live and work in London. In London, he was able to collaborate with famous artists such as Tom Misch and Disclosure, and his vocals were featured on Disclosure’s track “Caracal”.
In 2016, he released his debut album himself, named Cloak. This album showed that Rakei was able to show the world his unique sound and make a name for himself. Also in 2016, he became close with South London record label and party Rhythm Section. As a result, they encouraged him to release an EP of dance-floor driven tracks under his Dan Kye alias. Rakei is a truly unique and multi-talented artist, and I’m certainly excited to see what he has in store for us next.
