30 seconds into this track and I’m already head over heels in love with the beat and every single instrument that creates this masterpiece. It’s a fun, upbeat sound with this perfect little twinge of an island vibe that undeniably gets you moving whether you want to or not.
ODIE is definitely telling a story with this track. It begins with him and his best friend being out for the night and Odie being a bit tipsy off the Henny. The story eventually moves on to him reminiscing on some not-so-old times with a certain someone, hitting them up, and regretting it a few days later.
“Call you once or twice to tell you, you my honey. In reality, regret the shit on Monday.”
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. We all have that one person we drunk text or call every now and then, (or at least consider doing so) and end up saying way too much. ODIE is no different, which makes his music and this specific track that much more relatable.
“We could never fall, we could never fall in love, cuz our history too long and I give way too many fucks.”
Like I’ve already said, the lyrics for this track are crazy relatable in so many ways, especially for the generation of 20-somethings like myself, who are all somehow struggling to figure out just exactly where they stand with someone or how they’re possibly going to get over someone they’ve been rocking with for way too long.
“Throw your feelings away, just keep feeling on me.”
We feel you, ODIE. We’re gonna blame it on the alcohol, for sure.
Odie’s unique sound gives me a smooth Chance The Rapper vibe, while his uncanny ability to tell a story that builds with the beat definitely brings about a Drake vibe. I can’t wait to see what else this lyrical creative has up his sleeve. With a gem like “Penny,” I can assure you ODIE is on the rise.
